Van Dyke Cancer Centers

Columbia St. Mary's has proudly named its cancer centers in honor of long-time patients, volunteers and donors Polly and William D. Van Dyke.

Both Columbia St. Mary's cancer centers -- in Milwaukee and Ozaukee -- will now be known as the:

Polly and Bill Van Dyke were long-time Columbia St. Mary's patients, volunteers and donors. Their appreciation for the personal, compassionate and expert team of caregivers they met along the way were driving factors in their unwavering commitment to Columbia St. Mary's.

Now, Polly and Bill's generous support will allow Columbia St. Mary's to expand its cancer program to:

  • Expand to a full-navigator model, which provides every cancer patient with a personal nurse navigator who guides them through every step of their cancer journey.

  • Expand our breast cancer multidisciplinary clinic to all cancer disease sites. This means that the entire cancer team works together on a course of treatment and the patient comes to one single visit to meet with everyone and learn about the personalized care they will receive.

  • Increase clinical trials to bring more cancer care knowledge to our care plans.

  • Offer a full expanse of complementary therapies to enhance the patient's emotional and spiritual well-being.

  • Offer a comprehensive survivorship program that serves patients from the moment they are diagnosed.

The Van Dyke Cancer Centers will further what the Van Dykes embraced in Columbia St. Mary's:  a singular dedication to providing patients with care that treats the whole person - body, mind and spirit.

You will notice that the Van Dyke Cancer Center logo features a yellow rose, which was Polly's favorite flower. The flower was incorporated in tribute to Polly, however, it was also stylized to represent the team of caregivers who surround the patient in a supportive embrace, much like the philosophy of our cancer navigator program.

Gifts to the Polly and Bill Van Dyke Cancer Center Fund will help advance and maintain care already being provided at Columbia St. Mary's.

Your gift will enhance the legacy that Polly and Bill left to Columbia St. Mary's patients.

Gifts may be made in tribute to Polly and Bill. The Van Dykes daughters will be informed of your thoughtful gift.

Polly and Bill Van Dyke

Polly and Bill's commitment to Columbia St. Mary's was unparalleled.

Rooted in a deep commitment to family, friends and their community, the Van Dykes answered their call to care with vision, passion, humility and generosity.

For many years, Polly served on all of our boards:  Columbia Hospital, Columbia Foundation, Columbia College of Nursing, Columbia Health System, and Columbia St. Mary's.

It was Polly's vision and generosity that created the Van Dyke Haebler Center for Women's Imaging -- Wisconsin's premier breast imaging center.

From 2006 to 2011, Polly and Bill served as honorary chairs of our $42 million Beyond Medicine Campaign. And, they were loyal and generous donors for decades.

Both Polly and Bill passed away in 2014, leaving an incredible legacy of care and concern to Columbia St. Mary's patients for decades to come.
