2014 Columbia St. Mary's Foundation Gala

300. That’s the number of breast cancer patients Columbia St. Mary’s treats every year.

Nearly one woman every single day, every single year, getting that call they’ll never forget.

300 lives disrupted. 300 women in need of care and comfort.

But as everyone knows, the effects of a diagnosis stretch far beyond those 300 women.

Like dropping a stone into a still pond, a breast cancer diagnosis causes a ripple of sweeping concern. From the initial contact, a ripple of fear spreads outward to the women’s family, her friends, her loved ones. Then the ripple spreads to the communities we work and live in.

But just like that ripple, breast cancer is not forever – life can return to normal. The caregivers at Columbia St. Mary’s Breast Health Programs have dedicated their lives to ensuring it does.

Every year, these 300 women entrust Columbia St. Mary’s with their breast cancer care. It’s with these women and their loved ones in mind that we will gather on Saturday, October 25th at the Milwaukee Country Club for the 2014 Columbia St. Mary’s Foundation Gala. All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Columbia St. Mary’s Breast Health Programs.

Columbia St. Mary’s has always offered the women of southeastern Wisconsin the gold standard of breast health care. We will again advance that standard of care to the highest level. With your support, we will bring 3D mammography to Columbia St. Mary’s.

3D mammography is the cutting-edge screening and diagnostic technology – and the benefits are numerous. The higher quality image allows for earlier detection, greater accuracy in diagnosis and, ultimately, a higher survival rate with fewer treatments and side-effects.

The stats are telling:

• 3D mammography finds 27 percent more cancers and 40 percent more invasive cancers than conventional 2D mammography. Earlier detection means less treatment and better survival.

• 3D mammography results in much lower recall rate, with as high as a 40 percent reduction in follow-up exams. Fewer false-positives and additional screenings mean much less stress and anxiety for women.

With the addition of 3D mammography, women throughout southeastern Wisconsin will be able to get diagnosed, treated and back to their lives faster than ever before.

As you consider your philanthropic priorities this year, please keep these women and the 2014 Columbia St. Mary’s Foundation Gala in mind.

Your gift to the Gala will make a difference in the life of a woman every day of the year.
