A Passion For Patient Care:
David Olson, new Ozaukee Hospital President
Since becoming the new Executive Vice President of Columbia St. Mary’s, Inc., and President of Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee in December 2009, David Olson has placed a high priority on getting to know his Ozaukee County neighbors and best serving their needs.
David and his family found "the perfect tree" to help celebrate this year's holiday season in their new home just outside of Cedarburg.
A big first step – David and his family spent the holidays settling into their new home just outside of Cedarburg. “We’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people from the area and are impressed at how nice everyone is,” David shared about his experience so far. “The minute you tell someone that you’ve just moved to town they are so welcoming, which has helped my family and I immediately feel that we’re a part of the community. It’s just amazing.”
Looking forward, David has a big task ahead of him. In his role, he is responsible for all aspects of the Mequon hospital operations. Knowing the challenges ahead, both locally and nationally, his main objectives for the coming year include:
David has more than 20 years of hospital administration experience. He came to Columbia St. Mary’s from Bay Area Medical Center, where he has served as President/CEO since 1999. Prior to that, he held the positions of Vice President, Administrative Services for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and President/CEO of Victory Medical Center in Stanley, Wisconsin.
“David is a seasoned leader who brings very strong experience and values that are fully compatible with Columbia St. Mary’s. We believe he will help us fulfill our mission and commitment to the communities we serve,” said Leo Brideau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia St. Mary’s, Inc.
David’s leadership at Bay Area Medical Center led to some significant accomplishments. Most recently, the hospital received HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety in 2009 (as well as in 2005, 2006 and 2007), and the Wisconsin Forward (Malcolm Baldrige) Award in 2007 and 2008, which recognizes high performance and management principles.
In 2009, David was named Chairman-Elect of the Wisconsin Hospital Association, with succession to the Chair in January 2010. “David’s election to the WHA Board is clear evidence of the esteem in which he is held by his peers. His positive relationships with physicians, trustees, employees and the community as well as his personal commitment to healthcare quality and patient safety make him ideally suited for Columbia St. Mary’s,” said Brideau.
A native of Barron, Wisconsin, David earned his Master of Business Administration at Tipple School of Management, University of Iowa. He received his Master of Health Administration at the University of Iowa and his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
